Locate ICE Detainee Releases

To find someone released from the ICE detention system, use the immigration locator soon after the custody change and enter the identity details exactly. An ICE release can mean conditional release, transfer, or removal, so the locator result must not be treated as proof that a person returned to Crawford County. No ICE detention center or county ICE detention contract was verified in Crawford County. Immigration custody may still follow a local jail departure, and transfer to ICE means federal civil custody continues.

ICE Releases Affecting Crawford County

ICE detention is federal civil immigration custody. It is not a county jail sentence, an ODRC prison term, or a BOP sentence. Research found no ICE detention center in Crawford County and no official evidence of a standing county ICE detention contract. The ICE system remains relevant when a Crawford County Jail movement record shows that immigration authorities received a person.

A departure from the Crawford County Jail to ICE is a transfer, not community release. Later ICE outcomes can also differ. Conditional release may place a person outside detention under immigration requirements. Transfer means custody continues at another location. Removal means departure from the United States. A locator result may not explain every legal condition or destination, so the jail movement record, ICE information, and immigration case record answer separate parts of the event.

Leaving Crawford County Jail on an ICE detainer confirms a change of custodian, not release from detention.

Confirm an ICE Detainee Release

The Online Detainee Locator System, or ODLS, is the official public search. It covers current ICE detainees and people released from ICE custody during the prior 60 days. This short window is critical. A person may disappear after the release record ages out even though the prior detention was real.

  1. Use the nine-digit A-number and country of birth when possible. Add leading zeros when the recorded A-number has fewer digits.
  2. If the A-number is unknown, enter the exact first and last name, country of birth, and date of birth requested by the current interface.
  3. Try the spelling used in immigration records, including any order or variation in recorded names.
  4. Read whether the result concerns current detention or a recent release. Do not infer the legal outcome from absence alone.
  5. When the result is unclear, use the national information line and any authorized case representative to ask about the correct route.

A no-result can stem from spelling, processing time, an age restriction, a different custody system, or the end of the 60-day display period. It is not proof that the person was never detained or has returned to the community.

ICE Release Search Inputs

ODLS offers two identity routes. The number route is usually stronger because names can be shared or recorded in different forms. Both routes require care, and ICE may limit information about a third party without proper authorization.

Search routeRequired detailsPractical limit
A-numberNine-digit A-number plus country of birthA shorter number must be left-padded with zeros.
NameExact first and last name, country of birth, and current-interface birth detailsSpelling, name order, or alternate forms may prevent a match.
Recent releaseA matching identity within ODLS coverageReleased-person visibility lasts only the prior 60 days.
Older historyCase-specific agency or legal recordsODLS is not a permanent historical release archive.

Keep A-numbers and birth details private. They are matching tools, not facts that need to be republished. A result should be recorded with the date checked and the exact status wording shown at that time.

Note: ODLS is a current and recent-release tool; it is not a complete directory of former ICE detainees.

Crawford ICE Release Window

The ICE release window is much shorter than the historical BOP locator. Official guidance says ODLS includes people released from ICE custody only within the prior 60 days. A Crawford County family checking months later may therefore get no match even when a transfer and later ICE release occurred.

The official ICE detainee information guidance states the current-detainee and recent-release scope.

ICE 60-day detainee release scope for a Crawford County lookup

This official capture documents the ODLS access boundary. It does not show a Crawford County detention facility or prove a particular person's release.

If the 60-day window has passed, return to the custody trail. A Crawford County Sheriff movement record may identify ICE as the receiving authority. Immigration counsel or an authorized representative can use the case record and appropriate ICE channel. Do not replace the absent locator result with a BOP or ODRC search unless a separate federal prison or Ohio prison episode is supported.

For a dated research note, preserve the exact ODLS wording and the day the search was run. Avoid turning the result into a claim about the person's present home or physical location. A recent-release result addresses ICE detention status within the public system's window. It does not establish whether conditions remain, where the person went, or whether another court or agency has authority.

ICE Release, Transfer, or Removal

“Release” is not a single outcome in immigration custody. The destination and conditions matter. The following distinctions prevent a Crawford County jail departure or ICE status change from being overstated.

EventMeaningVerification path
Transfer to ICELocal custody ended and ICE custody began.Crawford Sheriff movement record plus ICE locator or authorized inquiry.
Conditional ICE releaseDetention ended under immigration conditions.ODLS recent result and case-specific ICE or legal record.
Transfer within ICEThe detainee moved while federal civil custody continued.Current ODLS result and ICE routing information.
RemovalThe person departed the United States under immigration authority.Immigration case record, not a county roster.
No ODLS resultThe public search did not return a match.Check inputs, timing, coverage, and the prior custodian before drawing a conclusion.

None of these events is proved by a name disappearing from the Sheriff App. The county record establishes that custodian's action. ICE records establish the federal civil detention event. The Crawford County released-inmate search path helps identify which record to request first.

ICE Detainee Release Contacts

Ohio falls under Detroit Enforcement and Removal Operations. The national Detention and Reporting and Information Line can route a detainee inquiry. Privacy restrictions may prevent disclosure to an unrelated caller. ICE may require a signed waiver or Form G-28 for an attorney or accredited representative.

ICE Detention Information

National line: 1-888-351-4024
Use: Detainee location and reporting information within ICE disclosure rules.
Authority: Detroit ERO serves Ohio.

Cleveland ICE Check-In Site

Address: 925 Keynote Circle, Brooklyn Heights, OH
Phone: 216-749-9200
Important: This is a check-in site, not a detention facility or historical release archive.

These are routing contacts, not guarantees that staff can disclose a third party's status. Provide only the details needed for a lawful inquiry and use an authorized representative when the case requires protected information.

A signed privacy waiver or Form G-28 may be needed before ICE discusses protected case details with someone other than the detainee. The national line can help identify the right channel, but it is not a public historical database. The Cleveland location serves a check-in function and must not be presented as the place where Crawford County detainees are held or released.

Crawford Jail and ICE Records

When the person was first held at Crawford County Jail, begin with the specified booking episode. Ask whether that booking ended, when the movement occurred, what release or movement code was recorded, and whether another agency received the person. A response that the person is “not here” does not identify the destination.

If the Sheriff record names ICE, ODLS becomes the next public tool. If it names USMS, follow the federal holding-facility and court route instead. If it names ODRC, use the state offender search. A detainer is a request or notice from another authority that may affect release, while a transfer is the actual move to another custodian. Neither term should be used as a synonym for community release.

Detainer
An authority's notice or request that can affect release or transfer.
A-number
An immigration identifier used in the strongest ODLS search route.
Conditional release
Exit from ICE detention under immigration conditions.
Removal
Departure from the United States under immigration authority.

Note: No official source established an ICE detention contract or ICE detention center in Crawford County.

About Crawford ICE Custody

The facility-map entry represents the national ICE detention system, not a building in Crawford County. The reviewed official sources did not establish a local ICE detention center or county contract. That finding must not be stretched into a claim that no individual ever enters ICE custody after leaving the county jail.

The accurate description follows the evidence. The Crawford County release or movement record can show that the local booking ended and identify a receiving agency. ODLS can show current ICE detention or a recent release within its limited window. Case records or an authorized ICE inquiry may provide the legal result. If the destination remains unknown, state that it is unknown. A roster absence, locator miss, check-in address, or federal agency name cannot by itself prove that someone is free, detained, removed, or back in Crawford County.

The federal inmate release page covers BOP sentences and USMS custody, which use different records and status labels from ICE.
